Testimonials:

Ray Prentice- Testimonial

'In June of this year my wife enrolled me at the Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School.

It had been over 36 years since I had attempted this type of artistic endeavour, my first attempts had been undertaken during adult education lessons which were abandoned by the government after the first 12 months of operation. I had no idea of how I would go after such a break, but the help and kind advice from the staff and the gentle encouragement of fellow students has helped me capture the joy of this beautiful tactile art. It helps to prove to me that it is never too late to start again.'

Michelle Heldon, Scholarship Student at TBSSS:

‘I received an email from the TBSSS offering me a scholarship at the school. I was thrilled as I had recently graduated from the National Art School but pursued painting as my major. I have always had a keen interest in sculpture but was a little intimidated by it at NAS. So having an opportunity like this fall into my lap was very exciting.

My first impression of TBSSS was one of delight- as soon as I stepped into the space the atmosphere was gentle and relaxed. I immediately felt comfortable and at home.
Meeting Tom was a joy, and his humble personality embodies the spirit and philosophy of the school for me.

The teaching has been fantastic with gentle and sincere guiding. In two terms I have learnt the basics of sculpture using the plaster moulds. I would recommend the TBSSS to anyone who wants to feel the heart of sculpture without being overwhelmed by the ‘Art World’. I feel inspired to delve into the fascinating world of sculpture that the TBSSS has introduced me to so beautifully.

Thank you to Tom and to all the staff at the TBSSS.’

TBSSS offer some scholarships for young artists (25 and under, living in the City of Sydney, who might benefit from pursuing sculpture. Michelle was recommended through Joelle Adams, the Youth Project Manager with the City of Sydney, by Christie Torrington at Pine Street Creative Arts.
