Tom Bass AM, one of Australia’s foremost public and civic
sculptors, founded the Tom
Bass Sculpture Studio School
in Sydney in 1974. Tom’s
teaching is in the tradition of the Master-apprentice, the tradition
in which the great sculptors
of history were taught.

We teach sculpture as a serious artistic discipline in our studio school at Erskineville in Sydney’s inner-west.  There are classes for all levels of attainment taught by experienced teachers, who are also practising sculptors.

Commissioning a sculpture can be very rewarding.  We can guide you through the process of defining the work you require. You will be introduced to an artist and a proposal will be prepared estimating cost and time.  We also have a gallery display area.

In 2004 we introduced a public sculpture class to take student of the school through the process of making a Public Sculpture.  We are fortunate to be working with Erskineville Public School in the making of a children’s sculpture.

The studio school provides an active programme of special events. We regularly invite outstanding artists to hold intensive workshops and we organise excursions with sculptural interest.

We offer some scholarships.  Senior students and recent graduates of Australian Art Institutions are invited to contact us for more information.

The studio school is a “not for profit” organisation. Donations over $2.00 are tax deductible.  You are invited to become a friend of the school.  Find out more about us.

Please feel free to contact us for more information about our activities
